A Context-Aware Notification Framework for Developers of CSCE

The purpose of this study was to advance a theoretical framework for development that could be used to integrate actvivity notifications into existing Computer Supported Collaborative Environments (CSCE). The general hypothesis tested was that developers following the principles in the proposed Framework for Notification could develop a notification system for a CSCE that supported the aspects of the Locales Framework (Fitzpatrick, 1998). To test this hypothesis, I carried out a software research study to develop and integrate a Context-aware Activity Notification System (CANS) into an existing CSCE (Sakai) using the proposed Framework for Notification.

I developed CANS for this study. This study was completed for my Ph.D. dissertation.
